November 19, 2021 | The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning experiencePresented by Wendi Wampler and Dennis Gilbert of Lane CC Zoom:https://cocc.zoom.us/j/95204249856 Come see what the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is all about! The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Initiative in Oregon was formed by Dennis Gilbert at LCC to help create learning communities consisting of faculty members who work together to define inquiry questions, explore reform options, and make plans for further inquiry and reform, based on the research that already exists.Building communities of practice centered around engagement in scholarly inquiry creates a sense of community through bonding over similar ‘problems’ and optimism created by learning there are solutions out there. It also helps connect you to others implementing and testing similar reforms across the state, so you have support, advice, and feedback from those have already gone through the process. Typically, SoTL is presented in two 6 – week seminars that last an hour a week. For thisteaching academy, we will go through introductory activities and discussion presented in the first week of the seminar. We have attached a short article that will help you better understand the motivation behind this project. We hope this experience will pique your curiosity so you will join us for our SoTL seminars starting at COCC next winter term! |
