Explore occupations within the field of Public Health to gain an appreciation for the variety of career roles and opportunities. Content outline • Overview of the field of Public Health, including definition(s), history, values, concepts, and functions • Public health practice and public health strategic planning to achieve improvements in population health • Community Public Health, including racial/ethnic populations and local examples. • Role responsibilities of local, state and federal government public health agencies, including their partnerships with the community, the private for profit and not-for-profit sectors and their interaction with the primary health care system. • Introduction to a selection of public health professional careers and the public health workforce; including Public Health Preparedness, Health Promotion Health Education, Epidemiology, Public Health Management and Policy, HIV/AIDS prevention, etc.. • Overview of Global Health, including definition(s), principles, goals, international public health government and non-government organizations and examples of field practice in developing country environments • Overview of academic pathway for undergraduate public health degree, including specific orientation to transfer requirements and degree opportunities at OSU-Corvallis.
