Longevity: the ambition of kings, super villains - and pretty much all of us who enjoy waking up each morning. At Dr. Jill Helms’ lab at Stanford, they are working on understanding why we age, and then translating that new knowledge into therapeutic strategies that slow the natural process. According to Dr. Helms, questions of this magnitude require “moonshot thinking” and some serious team science, both made possible by Stanford’s diverse environment.

About Dr. Jill Helms
Dr. Helms’ longevity research focuses on understanding why healing slows as we age. Many such age-related changes can be traced back to sluggish stem cells, and her group has developed methods to re-activate a patient’s own stem cells for therapeutic intervention in a broad range of conditions affecting bone, cartilage, skin, and hair.

This event is sponsored by the Associated Students of COCC and Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund.
