Overdue Fines

As of November 2020, Barber Library does not charge overdue fines for any items. If you do not return items by the due date, your library account may be blocked until you bring them back. See "Loss of Library Borrowing Privileges," below.

Lost or Damaged Item Fines

更换及处理费用适用于申报遗失或归还损坏的物品。

The borrower assumes financial responsibility for any Library items checked out on his or her account, including financial responsibility in the event an item is lost, stolen, or damaged.

无论是否已付款,图书馆的物品仍然是学院的财产。不能从图书馆购买资料。任何谎称丢失物品的人,或拒绝交出捡到的物品的人,都可以被指控非法占有国家财产。

If Library items are damaged (especially by water), please return them immediately to the Circulation Desk so appropriate measures can be taken to salvage the item.

Loss of Library Borrowing Privileges

The Library temporarily revokes borrowing privileges for the following reasons.

  • 储备或科技物品过期。
  • 账户余额超过150美元。

When you return your overdue item(s) and/or resolve the charges on your account, borrowing privileges will be immediately reinstated.

Paying Fines

COCC students and Community Patrons must pay overdue fines and replacement fees either...

  1. At the Cashier's Office in the Boyle Education Center,or
  2. Online throughBobcat Webin the Tuition/Fees and Online Payment section (available only to currently enrolled COCC students).

The Library cannot accept direct payments at the Circulation Desk.

Accruing fees will result in a hold on a student's record. The hold will prevent the student from registering for classes, obtaining transcripts, or graduating.

On the third week of every term, the College sends accounts with outstanding balances over $50 to the Oregon Department of Revenue for collection. To avoid collection fees, settle any fines with the College as soon as you incur them.

Appealing Fines

Patrons may appeal library charges if they have been mistakenly assessed or if extenuating circumstances may warrant reduction or cancellation of the charges. Appeals should be made at the Circulation Deskwithin 30 calendar days of the original billing.

The following reasons arenotregarded as valid for canceling or reducing charges.

  • Item lost, stolen, or damaged by a third party
  • Item loaned to a third party
  • Lack of knowledge of Library policy
  • Disagreement with Library policy
  • Forgetting the due date
  • Non-receipt or late receipt of the overdue notice
  • Item returned to a library other than COCC Barber Library
  • Term breaks, illness, vacations, exams, car problems, etc.
