Orientation for Online Classes at COCC
Is Online Learning right for me?
COCC offers various online and hybrid courses to meet the diverse needs of our students. However, it takes a different set of skills to be successful in online learning compared to traditional in-person classes. Students who want to register to take online credit courses must have successfully completed the prerequisite course "Orientation for Online Classes at COCC".
Are you ready to take the orientation?
1. First, login to your COCC account.
2. You will be taken to the self-enrollment page. Click "Enroll in Course" button.
3. Select "Go to the Course" to open the Orientation for Online Classes at COCC course.

Yes, any student wanting to register to take online credit courses must successfully complete the Orientation for Online Classes at COCC course.
How do I sign up for the orientation course?
You can self-enroll by following the steps described on this webpage. If you cannot self-enroll, please fill out theonline orientation request form. You will receive an email email@example.com course access information within one business day following submission. We do not process enrollment requests over the weekends or on holidays.
How long does it take to complete the orientation?
The time it takes to complete the orientation varies based on an individual students ability to complete all of the required assignments. Please expect at least 30 minutes of work if you are familiar with the Canvas Learning Management System.
How long does it take to receive approval and how will I know that I am approved?
As soon as we confirm that you have met all the requirements, we will clear your online orientation prerequisite in the registration system and send a confirmation email to your COCC email address during the regular office hours. The orientation taken over the weekends or holidays will be processed in the morning of following business day.
What are the requirements to complete the orientation course?
All pages must be read in modules 1] through 4]. After you read the content on each page, click the 'Mark as done' button. When you are finished reading all of the content and have marked all pages as done, the Acknowledgment of Completion quiz in module 5] must be submitted.
How will I know if I passed all of the required assessments?
Click on the 'Badges' on the Navigation Menu. A completion badge will appear for those who have completed the Orientation modules.
I have taken this orientation in the past. Do I need to take it each term?
No. Once you complete the orientation course, you are not required to take it again.
Does the orientation course access expire?
No. Once you are enrolled in the course, the access will not expire whether or not you have completed the course.
What operating system/browser/system requirements will I need?
To ensure you are able to successfully access the orientation course, we recommend you use the most recent version of Firefox or Chrome. We also recommend you to install Canvas Student app on your mobile device.
Do I need to be on campus for this orientation course?
No. You are not required to be on campus to complete the course. However, you are welcome to use any of ourdrop-in computer labsif you need access to a computer/internet.
Can I take the orientation course if I have not been accepted to COCC yet?
No. This orientation course is only offered to currently admitted COCC students. It is not available to the general public or to Continue Education program students. If you are in the process of applying to COCC, your Canvas account will be accessible 1-2 days after the admission process is completed.
